"Refreshing York's History"

We have chosen to use botanicals with a link to York's history and so added Mint, Sweet Cicely and Thyme as they were introduced to the UK by the Romans.

50% of the botanicals used in our Micklegate and Walmgate editions we grow ourselves. We even grow the plums in our Bootham Bar Edition.

Micklegate Bar Edition

Micklegate Bar Edition

Micklegate Bar dates from the 12th century forming part of York's Ring of Stone (the Bar Walls) which helped to protect the city from invasion. The medieval gateway was a focus for grand events and revelry.

Our small batch artisan gin distilled in Yorkshire using only six of the finest botanicals, unites juniper, orange peel, coriander and sweet cicely to deliver a classic smooth sipping London Dry with hints of citrus and aniseed. Inspired by the halcyon years and perfectly crafted for intriguing minds.

Walmgate Bar Edition

Walmgate Bar Edition

Walmgate Bar dates from the 12th century forming part of York's Ring of Stone (the Bar Walls) which helped to protect the city from invasion. Despite attempts from rebels to burn it down, Walmgate Bar still stands proud with its barbican, the only one surviving on a town gate in England.

Our small batch artisan gin distilled in Yorkshire using only six of the finest botanicals, unites juniper, lemon thyme, coriander and ginger mint to deliver a classic herbaceous London Dry with hints of thyme and citrus. Inspired by the halcyon years and perfectly crafted for intriguing minds.

Bootham Bar Edition

Bootham Bar Edition

Bootham Bar is the oldest of the gateways through the Bar Walls. Standing on foundations dating back to A.D.300, there has been a gate on the site for nearly 2000 years. It is rumoured that in 1501 a door-knocker was installed on which Scots were required to knock, and could only enter if given permission from the city's Lord Mayor.

This small batch, hand crafted, plum and almond flavoured gin is inspired by the orchard that was in the grounds of Wandesford House, Bootham. We use our own home grown plums in this gin.

Monk Bar Edition

Monk Bar is the tallest of all of the York City Wall gates and dates from around the thirteenth century. Monk Bar does however have the city’s only working portcullis, which was last lowered in 1953 for the Queen’s Coronation.

For a different twist this Old Tom style gin is distilled from molasses spirit. Bar Walls Gin Monk Bar Edition has a sweet aroma of citrus and angelica with just a hint of vanilla, balancing out the significant hit of juniper, reminiscent of original Old Tom gins but with a modern edge. The subtle sweetness of this gin makes for a soft mouth feel. Perfectly crafted for intriguing minds. Silver medal winner with 89 points at the London Spirits Competition 2022
